Supermarkets in London

There are many supermarkets in London. In fact there have a tad more variety of supermarkets than you would find in Singapore. The supermarkets here are relatively large and they provide just about anything that you would need as an Asian, depending on where you go. That is not to say that you would find everything readily that you would crave for but you will find just about everything to cook up the usual comforts of home.

To name a few as below with a brief description of what the differences , the pros and cons of what is available. This article is still live and i will update as I go along in this part of the world.

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer not only has a supermarket chain called Marks & Spencer Simply Food , it is has a departmental chain much like what you see in Singapore. The food and groceries that you will find in  M&S has a premium feel to it and the crowd is usually less compared to that of Sainsbury or Tesco. And I am attributing this to the fact that it seems to be slightly more expensive compared to the rest of the supermarket food chains. However, the food quality has a more premium feel and certainly taste to it. If you are not budget constrained and would prefer quality there is much that you will find here to your liking.

Cheapness Index : 3.8/5

Waitrose

Waitrose has good stuff and a good crowd which suggest that they seem to be the preferred supermarket chain here. They have good quality stuff at good prices. This supermarket is my supermarket of choice as it does seem to have a wide variety of just about anything you need and relatively good prices. It always does seem to have a bigger crowd compared to Marks & Spencer. The quality of their diary, cheese, poultry over in England if much better than what you would find in Singapore in general. Give it a try you will find that the quality here is better, and it could be that they seem to have an emphasis of free range / organic stuff which does makes a difference compared to the usual mass produced non-organic produce. It taste different......

The Singapore equivalent - Cold Storage
Quality : 4/5

Sainsbury

Much like that of Waitrose, it gives a similar feel of quality and good prices. However, Waitrose seems to standout better in terms of their layout, marketing, variety of products that they have. Nothing wrong with it, i buy things here it is just not my choice of supermarket especially if i see a Waitrose next to it.

The Singapore equivalent - NTUC finest
Quality : 4/5
Cheapness Index : 4/5

Tesco

Tesco is like NTUC. It is the supermarket for everyone. It is popular and everyone's go to supermarket it does have good stuff and at good prices. I think the word NTUC says it all, good and affordable.

Quality : 3.8/5
Cheapness Index : 4.5/5
